THE CLIENT: Helmed by Chef Kenji Okumura, the former Executive Chef of Takumi Kacyo, Teppan Kappou Kenji is set to the new dining destination at Tanjong Pagar. Hailing from Ichinomiya, a city located in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, Chef Kenji Okumura started his career at the Kokusai Culinary School in Nagoya at the age of 19. He honed his skills in Kaiseki dining under the master chef at the illustrious Nadaman Japanese Restaurant in Nagoya Tokyu Hotel. Now with Teppan Kappou (counter seating) Kenji, he hopes to introduce a new Japanese gourmet experience – one that is steeped in nuances of sophisticated Japanese multi-course meal but presented in a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. Diners can enjoy the full display the chef’s culinary mastery and have intricate dishes with seasonal ingredients prepared right before their eyes.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Publicist PR served as the PR partner for the opening of Teppan Kappou Kenji to provide strategic PR counsel and manage the media relations for the new dining destination. Chef Kenji's aim was to introduce premium dining Omakase with fine ingredients at an affordable price range which would be below the magic $200 price point. Working closely with the chef, Publicist PR teased out the story to present the new dining concept - a modern Kappou dining establishment offering premium seasonal menu and wide variety of ala carte dishes at affordable prices. Publicist PR positioned Teppan Kappou Kenji as a dining hotspot set up with talented chefs. An emphasis was placed on the brand’s story, and the alignment to values associated with seasonal ingredients, Kaiser trained chef and premium quality at an affordable price range.

RESULTS: Agency developed a PR program focused on showcasing the unique Omakase offerings by Chef Kenji to traditional food media including The Business Times, Prestige Online, I Weekly, Lianhe Zaobao, The Straits Times, Timeout, Weekender, City Nomads, Great New Places, SG Singapore as well as award wining food bloggers such as Lady Camemberu.
